Paterson Design Studio (PDS) is a multi-award winning boutique Landscape Architecture & Urban Design practice specialising in thoughtful and intelligent design processes for both public and private realm projects. We have more than 30 years of experience in crafting and designing functional yet elegant environments including public realm parks, riparian zones and plazas, medium and higher density housing, private residences and commercial spaces.

Our Design Team
Garth Paterson
Director And Principal Landscape Architect / Urban Designer
Garth Paterson is a registered Landscape Architect and Urban Designer and with over thirty years’ experience throughout Australia and the United States. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s in Urban Design. During the past fifteen years he has led internal developer and consultant teams in the development of many of Australia’s largest Master Planned Communities. His principle role has been to guide the development process to achieve the best longterm, sustainable outcomes for the residents and wider community by creating an open space and public realm legacy that thrives after the developer exit a site / project.
In 2000 he was awarded the Lifetime award of Distinguished Alumni for his contribution to the profession of Landscape Architecture and the education of students from The University of Canberra and in 2011 he was elected a Life Member of the Australia Institute of Landscape Architects as a Fellow.
Garth established Paterson Design Studio (PDS) in 2010 and, with his team, has successfully grown the business over the last ten years to establish it as one of the most accomplished and respected Landscape Architecture & Urban Design practices in Sydney. He is also an active professional review panel member on over ten State and Local Government panels on a range of State Significant and Local Planning issues including Transport for New South Wales Design Review Panel, Parramatta Design Excellence Panel and Waverley Design Review Panel.
Dylan Charles Landscape Architect
Dylan is an experienced Landscape Architect. He has a Diploma of Building Design from Sydney TAFE and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Technology Sydney. Dylan joined PDS over six years ago and works alongside Garth on a range of projects ranging from private residential work to large scale public realm projects. He has experience working across various stages of a design project including concept design and documentation, visualisation and digital modelling. Prior to joining the team at PDS, he worked in landscape construction which provided him with hands on experience of the industry.
Rohan Tucker
Landscape Architect
Rohan graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours) in May 2023 and has been working with PDS since. Rohan has always had a passion for urban design, as well as the natural world and the opportunities people have to interact with it through well designed, liveable open spaces. Rohan has since been able to develop his skillset in these areas of design through the variety of rich and detailed public realm and urban projects at PDS.
Cal Agnew Landscape Architect
Cal is currently completing a Master of Landscape Architecture at UTS and has been working with PDS since August 2022. Cal holds a Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma of Landscape Architecture from UTS, where he is also employed as a Casual Academic. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) at UNSW Art & Design in 2019, Cal pursued his passion in Horticulture and co-established a small gardening business. He is particularly interested in planting design, where he applies his artistic and horticultural skill sets.
Fiona Walsh
Practice Manager
Fiona is in charge of the day to day running of the office and assisting the Director. She is a graduate of University College Dublin, Ireland and holds a Diploma in Public Relations from the Dublin Institute of Technology. Prior to moving to Australia twelve years ago, Fiona was Director of a boutique Public Relations firm in Dublin, Ireland. She has also worked as an Administrator in the Financial and Retail sectors.
