Garth Paterson

Director And Principal Landscape Architect / Urban Designer

Garth Paterson is a registered Landscape Architect and Urban Designer and with over thirty years’ experience throughout Australia and the United States. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s in Urban Design. During the past fifteen years he has led internal developer and consultant teams in the development of many of Australia’s largest Master Planned Communities. His principle role has been to guide the development process to achieve the best longterm, sustainable outcomes for the residents and wider community by creating an open space and public realm legacy that thrives after the developer exit a site / project.

In 2000 he was awarded the Lifetime award of Distinguished Alumni for his contribution to the profession of Landscape Architecture and the education of students from The University of Canberra and in 2011 he was elected a Life Member of the Australia Institute of Landscape Architects as a Fellow.

Garth established Paterson Design Studio (PDS) in 2010 and, with his team, has successfully grown the business over the last ten years to establish it as one of the most accomplished and respected Landscape Architecture & Urban Design practices in Sydney. He is also an active professional review panel member on over ten State and Local Government panels on a range of State Significant and Local Planning issues including Transport for New South Wales Design Review Panel, Parramatta Design Excellence Panel and Waverley Design Review Panel.
