In 2012 The Ivanhoe Hotel on Manly Corso experienced a major make over. PDS was commissioned to work with Paul Kelly Design to design the exterior courtyard space on the first floor of this iconic Manly hotel.
The brief from the client and design concept was to bring the beach and associated casual lifestyle to the hotel. The design of the court-yard demonstrates this concept literally. The floor of the courtyard is striped like a beach towel and seating is scallop shaped and organic in form, providing intimate gathering nooks for patrons. Spatially the courtyard is reflective of the ebb and flow of a tidal beach and the changing physical conditions that it produces. Planting has a strong coastal theme; species including large Pandanus trees, Dracaenas from Madagascar and a feature wall of Epiphytic Stag Horns on a large expansive green wall.
