St Catherines Walk

An elegant building forecourt reinforces the buildings rich heritage

St Catherines walk is a significant project in terms of scale, budget and what the project achieved for the school. The walk achieved three main functions. Firstly, to conceal a large underground car park that was required to accommodate cars associated with the introduction of an Early Learning Centre. Secondly, to increase the size of the playing surface for the school's main oval. Thirdly, to provide a ceremonial gathering space in front of the heritage listed Sherrin Hall, linking the senior and junior schools which previously had been cut off due to level changes. Beautiful deciduous Ginkgo trees were hand selected with the client at the nursery. Today they thrive on the " deck" planter arrangement. The stairs were designed so that the girls could run down them with ease while maintenance vehicles drive over them periodically.
